Thanks for this video. I appreciate the time and effort it takes to produce these clips with solid content and decent audio and video quality. Only recently I looked at a Virgin Islands first coinage set from 1973 at my local coin shop. Hunting for some info on that set is how I found your channel. I ended up not buying, especially because only the one dollar was silver. My appreciation for coin sets is growing, but I have also learned to keep an eye on the intrinsic value and not let the collector’s bug run away with me.😉

I think the reason that the Presidential Dollars were included in Mint Sets, Proof Sets and Silver Proof Sets is because they were originally meant to be circulating coins and over 1.4 billion were produced from 2007 through 2011. Americans just refuse to use a dollar coin for commerce. The Presidential Dollars were then minted in smaller quantities from 2012 through 2016 (and the George H.W. Bush in 2020) for collectors only. The Innovation Dollars were never intended for circulation, but are still considered to be legal tender.

These 50% silver Canadian commemoratives were issued from 1971 to 1991. They're very affordable and can often be purchased for just a dollar over melt, probably because most refiners don't want anything below 80%. In 1992, the RCM changed composition to .925 silver and prices for the newer commemoratives got noticeably higher. I collected them up to 2013, but then Canada started spamming the market with hundreds of commemoratives a year, so it lost all appeal to me. Though, I may go back and try to fill the holes in the earlier years at some point.

One correction here, because you were talking while dipping you were dipping at least a few times 9 seconds. That may have been advantageous actually.

I believe I ordered both of these proof sets directly from The Franklin Mint at their time of issue, which was a really poor decision on my part. Since your coins are somewhat cloudy in appearance due to improper storage, most dealers would probably offer you 90%-92% of their actual melt value, and if they couldn't sell them for retail within a month or so, they would be destined for the refinery.
